Little Drum Solar Farm

Welcome to the project website for Grupotec’s proposal to develop a solar farm south-east of Kirkcudbright.

On 25 June 2025, Dumfries & Galloway Council’s Planning Applications Committee unanimously approved plans, subject to conditions, for the Little Drum Solar Farm.

We will work to discharge the conditions as quickly as possible and will continue to keep the community updated on the plans and next steps. We would like to take this opportunity to thank local residents and community representatives for their input and feedback on the proposal to date.

The scheme takes in approximately 75 hectares and this will include areas for habitat enhancement such as wildflower meadow planting and hedgerow and native tree planting.  The site is classified as ‘non prime’ agricultural land (it is grade 4 and grade 5).

There will be approximately 75,000 fixed panels and these will be set on frames in rows and face south. The panels will be raised above the ground by around 0.5m and will have a maximum height of approximately 3.2m. The land between the rows and under the panels will be planted as a species diverse grassland and will continue to be grazed.

We submitted a planning application to Dumfries & Galloway Council in late December 2024 and the application was validated in early January 2025, with reference number 24/2616/FUL.

Please visit the ‘Documents’ page for a number of the planning application documents and all documents can be found on Dumfries & Galloway Council’s Planning Portal, using reference 24/2616/FUL.

Consultation

We held two consultation events on 5th September 2024 and 8th October 2024 at The Johnston, Kirkcudbright. Please visit the ‘Consultation’ Tab for more information.
